President,
Central Indiana
Community Foundation (CICF), Indianapolis,
IN
Brian Payne is President of Central
Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) and
The Indianapolis Foundation. CICF is the result of the 1997 initiative
between The Indianapolis Foundation, serving Marion County since 1916, and
Legacy Fund Community Foundation, serving Hamilton County since 1991. Since
he joined CICF in November 2000, the Foundations have grown from $342
million to $635 million in total assets and annual grantmaking has doubled
from $15 million to $30 million. Under his direction, the CICF staff and
board successfully implemented a five-year strategic plan that was crafted
in 2002. This plan redefined the Foundation's business model and created
clarity and focus on how best to accomplish the Foundation's mission to
inspire, support, and practice philanthropy, leadership, and service in our
community.
Prior to his CICF appointment, Brian was Managing Director of the Indiana
Repertory Theatre (IRT) for seven years. The IRT, Indiana's resident
professional theatre, is nationally respected for the quality of its work,
its close connection to the community, and its focus on and care in creating
a supportive environment for artists. During Brian's tenure, the IRT grew
its audience and significantly increased its community and educational
programs. Brian also played a lead role in raising $16.5 million
to create
the IRT's endowment and to renovate the company's historic theatre built in
1927.
Brian is a native Californian. Before making his home in Indianapolis,
he
was Managing Director of Shakespeare Santa Cruz for eight years and worked
for various theatre producing organizations in Southern California including
the La Jolla Playhouse and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival. He
received both his Master of Fine Arts degree and Bachelor of Arts from UCLA.

Michaele Pride
Michaele Pride joined the
UC faculty in September 2003, as Associate
Professor and Director of the School of Architecture and Interior Design.
Her research focuses on the social and political implications of urban
design and the dynamics of neighborhood change. Translating theory to
practice, she continues to advise neighborhoods and local governments across
the United States. Michaele is perhaps best known for her community-based
design work in the months and years following the 1992 Los Angeles riots,
helping to coordinate participatory processes and leading the volunteer
efforts of the design community through the Design Professionals Coalition.
After seven years as principal of re: Architecture and a lifetime in Los
Angeles, Michaele Pride moved to Kentucky in 1996, as the initiating
director of the university's community design center in downtown Lexington.
As inaugural director of the Downtown Design Center at the University of
Kentucky, Michaele developed operational policies and established the
Lexington Research Roundtable. She supervised many projects addressing
critical housing and urban design issues throughout Kentucky.
Previously, Michaele taught at UCLA, Woodbury University, and the University
of Southern California. Michaele has received awards for design, planning,
and community advocacy from the LA Cultural Affairs Commission, the National
Organization of Minority Architects, American Planning Association, and the
American Institute of Architects.
