French Lick/West Baden Tour

West Baden Interior

The French Lick/West Baden tour, sponsored by the AIA Southern Indiana Chapter, provided participants with a unique behind the scenes learning experience. Tours of the French Lick Springs Hotel, the West Baden Springs Hotel, and Mt. Airy were provided by George Ridgway, AIA, the architect in charge of all three of these beautiful landmark structures.

“CELEBRATING LOCAL ARCHITECTURE”

The newly created AIA Southern Indiana Chapter held its first event"Celebrating Local Architecture", July 26, 2007. The event started with an afternoon kick-off featuring guest speakers, displays of work by local architects and institutions, door prizes, and much more. The Honorable Jonathan Weinzapfel, Mayor of Evansville, and AIA Ohio Valley Regional Director Anthony Costello, FAIA, were the featured guest speakers.

Events at a Glance

  • Every 2nd Wednesday of the month is our Chapter Lunch & Learn.


  • Every 3rd Friday of the month is our Chapter Board Meeting.

  • December 5th will be the last Chapter Meeting of the year, and will have elections for the 2009 Board.

Events in the Works

  • Celebrating Local Architecture Event.

  • Chapter “Meet & Greet” with State Legislators.

  • A speaker series open to Chapter Members and the General Public.

  • The creation of a Young Architects Forum Chapter.

  • All Chapter Members are welcome to attend the Board Meetings at Milano’s in downtown Evansville at noon.

About The Chapter

The Southern Chapter serves approximately 110 AIA members residing in the southern third of the state, including the Indiana metropolitan areas of Louisville and Cincinnati, as well as communities of Evansville and Vincennes.

AIA Indiana Southern Chapter President David A. Henson, AIA, met with U.S. Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D Evansville) on Capitol Hill during the 2007 AIA Grassroots Leadership and Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. Issues discussed with U.S. Rep. Ellsworth included federal building energy efficiency, sustainable design and water quality, and energy efficient commercial building tax deduction.

During the annual conference AIA leaders participated in numerous networking activities with peers, gained new ideas from Knowledge Community colleagues, sharpened and refined leadership skills, and shared AIA150 Blueprint for America visions and experiences.
