Gov. Daniels Vetoes Interior Design Bill

Gov. Daniels has vetoed SB 490, interior designer registration.  Gov. Daniels stated that SB 490 is "an example of government intrusion into the private marketplace, unnecessarily expanding the power and reach of a professional regulatory board (of which we have far too many already) and protecting the 'ins' at the expense of would-be competitors."

Indiana Statehouse

The 2008 Indiana General Assembly ended with a Mixed Bag for Indiana Architects.

Property tax reform was foremost in the minds of decision-makers and their constituents. On the final day of the session legislators passed legislation dealing with Standardized Public School Building Plans; Public Construction Referendums; and more.

Interior Design .....

(March 7, 2008) An interior design registration veto override attempt failed 15-31 in the Indiana General Assembly! Thank you to all who contacted their state senator. Your clout and influence made a difference!!

SB 490 (2007) last session's interior design registration bill vetoed by the Governor in a very strongly worded message, was posted to be considered for a veto override by the Indiana Senate. The veto override effort was surprising considering the fact Gov. Daniels’ veto message was so strong and that other much more important issues (property taxes) are still being debated.
