City-County Council Reception

The 2008 AIA Indianapolis City-County Council Reception was held recently at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Indianapolis. This event provided AIA Indianapolis members a unique opportunity to meet informally with members of the Indianapolis City-County Council.

Recent News Highlights

 

 

 

The reception also included the unveiling of the AIA Indianapolis Blueprint for America 150 Project. This project is a detailed digital model of the heart of the city and is a comprehensive design and planning tool capable of photo mapping and GIS integration. This 3D model will enable better planning, encourage better design, and provide a resource for productive discussions regarding the impact of architecture on our city. It will be available in a variety of formats, including a web-based public access version.

Historic Landmarks Foundation’s
Mid-Century Modern tour.

As one of several events to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month, Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana will offer a look inside some local examples of the classic modern residence of a half-century ago. Back to the Future: Mid-Century Modern Home Tour, features five Indianapolis houses built between 1958 and 1964, many filled with outstanding furniture from the same era.

In the fall of 2007, the IMA unveiled Above and Below—a commissioned installation by architect and artist Maya Lin inspired by the complex structure of underground White River tributaries in south central Indiana.  Emerging on the international scene with her design of the Vietnam War Memorial in 1982, Lin’s work has always hovered at the intersection of art, nature and architecture.

AIA Indianapolis IUPUI Campus Center Tour
This Event Was Held On April 23rd

AIA Indianapolis toured the new IUPUI Campus Center Wednesday, April 23. Th etour included a behind the scenes tour.  Dan Maxwell, the building's manager, gave insight into the process and lead us through the public and private areas of this striking new facility.  The tour included the nearby engineering buildings and explored a variety of experimental spaces designed by local interior designers to facilitate learning and interaction among the students and faculty.  

This program will offered at least 1 LU.

Ride To Sustain

Ride to Sustain Presentation
April 8th

Colin Davis took a three month, 4,000 mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Boston. The goal of the ride was to raise awareness that green house gas emissions and their link to climate change are a serious threat, and to highlight what innovative individuals and businesses can do to curb them while investing in a cleaner future economy. His talk "Ride to Sustain" will include interviews with the scientists, politicians, and executives who are shaping our energy future.
