Dear Hoosier AIA Members:

I am pleased to provide the following information regarding the 2009 committee appointment process.

Below is a partial list of the AIA committees and task groups to which AIA members may be appointed. Not all of the various committees and task groups have openings each year; this list represents a fairly comprehensive sampling of the opportunities available in 2009. In addition, opportunities for appointment to new committees may arise throughout the year. For a brief description of committee charges, please check the Web site and the Leadership Resource Center on the member’s page at: http://www.aia.org/SiteObjects/files/ldr_2_charges.pdf

As a component leader I have been invited to recommend AIA members for consideration for appointment to these or other national committees, as those openings become available, during the 2009 committee appointment process in fall 2008.

Appointments will be based on several criteria, including but not limited to geographic parity, gender and age, ethnic diversity, and experience. Please be sure to indicate, then, those demographic factors for the member when making your recommendations.

The deadline for submitting recommendations is Monday, September 8, 2008.

  • AIA Legacy, Inc.: openings for three members
  • AIA Trust: opening for one member
  • Architectural Record Editorial Advisory Board: opening for one member
  • Codes and Standards Committee: opening for two members

  • Convention Continuing Education Advisory Committee – openings for representatives from the Knowledge Communities
  • Council on Federal Procurement of Architectural and Engineering Services (COFPAES) – opening for one member with experience in federal procurement processes
  • Credentials Committee: openings for three members. Members of this committee are from regions where there are not declared candidates. Because that information will not be fully known until early 2009, please submit name of members interested in serving on this committee, and we will take that into account once the list of declared candidates is complete.
  • Documents Committee: members must be in active and current architectural practice
  • Educator/Practitioner Net (EPN) Advisory Committee: opening for one member
  • Federal Architecture Task Group: opening for four members with experience in federal procurement processes
  • International Committee: opening for one member
  • Licensing Committee: opening for a CACE representative
  • Long Range Planning Advisory Group: opening for one member, Associate representatives, and a CACE representative
  • Membership Committee: opening for a CACE representative
  • National Ethics Council: opening for three members
  • Resolutions Committee: opening for one member
  • Risk Management Committee: opening for one member
  • US Dept of State Overseas Building Operations Industry Advisory Panel: opening for one member

There are also a limited number of openings for members on the Board Advocacy, Community, and Knowledge Committees. These appointments require expertise and experience in the subject areas; please contact me for further information and I will put you in touch with the appropriate staff liaison.

Nominations for openings on the Knowledge Community Advisory groups are submitted through the AIA Board of Directors’ Knowledge Committee. Please contact Terri Stewart, Managing Director, at: tstewart@aia.org for further information.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this process!

Sincerely,

Jason Shelley
Executive Director
