AIA Indianapolis awards teens for creative designs of campus living space.
Forward-thinking high school students explored architectural design. Their creativity was awarded by professional architects as part of the Indiana High School Architectural Design Competition.
High school students from around the state were challenged to design a campus-living environment for themselves and two roommates. More than 139 students from 19 high schools competed in the annual design contest.
Local architects, who judged the entries, were most impressed with students who were able to develop thoughtful building concepts with appealing building forms maximizing site features and incorporating sustainability.
For more than 30 years the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has sponsored the contest as a way to expose teenagers to the design profession.
“It’s so encouraging to see the creative talent in our young people,” said Dan Weinheimer, president of AIA Indianapolis, and an architect at StructurePoint. “These students not only designed terrific looking buildings, but many included features that support green design, and that’s exciting.”
